ACCOLADES
Golder Associates Ltd., our Canadian operating company, has been declared one of the country’s “Fifty Best-Managed Companies in Canada” for the sixth year running.

Ron Barsi, a Senior Mining Specialist in our Saskatoon, Canada office has been asked by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to chair and participate in a consultancy to prepare a Technical Document on uranium mine/mill site decommissioning and reclamation.

The Consulting Engineers of Saskatchewan have recognized Golder for exceptional planning and design for the site remediation at the Bushell Public Port Facility Site. The award recognized the planning challenges as a result of the site’s remote location and the diverse nature of the remediation, which called upon a number of Golder’s core skills.

Golder France has received accreditation in Health and Safety with the Union des Industries Chimique (UIC), a nationwide organization to which most of the petrochemical and chemical companies belong. For certification, organizations must have an effective health and safety management system in place, with third-party audits to be sure that standards are followed.

pictThree Sisters Development Corp., a Golder client, has won a 2006 Canadian brownfield award (known as the “Brownie”) from the Canadian Urban Institute for excellence in sustainable design and technological innovation for the development of a former coal mine near Canmore, Alberta, Canada.

For our work at the former Nitchequon meteorological station in a remote part of Québec, Canada, Golder has received an award of excellence from the Association of Consulting Engineers of Canada.

Golder Associates Inc., our U.S. operating company, was recently recognized by the Environmental Business Journal for our sustained geographic growth throughout the U.S. and for the expansion of our environmental health and safety services worldwide. Senior Golder industrial hygiene and environmental management professionals have been particularly active in Asia through the delivery of educational programs to many local and multinational companies in the region.

A celebration featuring Chile’s former Treasury Minister, Nicolas Eyzaguirre (pictured on the right) as main speaker, marked the tenth anniversary of our office in Santiago. Established in 1996 to support mining clients, Golder’s Chilean company now has over 100 employees.

GROWTH & GEOGRAPHIC EXPANSION
Kingett Mitchell Ltd., a New Zealand environmental science and consultancy practice with more than 75 staff offering services mostly to the natural resources and management sectors, has merged with Golder’s New Zealand company.

We have acquired an equity stake in Clean Land Air Water Environmental Services Inc. (CLAW) of Ottawa, Canada. This Aboriginal environmental consulting services company has strengths in liaison and business development with various Governments and First Nations Communities and has access to an Aboriginal workforce.

A group of four senior engineers recently joined Golder and opened a new office in Lund, Sweden. The team has been involved in large underground gas storage and nuclear waste projects.

NEW RELATIONSHIPS
Golder’s Associates Ltd. and OSD Energy Services PTY Ltd. of Brisbane, Australia, have announced a business alliance in Canada that will have a presence in Golder’s Calgary office giving clients the benefit of Golder’s strengths in environmental and geotechnical engineering, together with OSD’s skills in pipeline engineering, project services to energy infrastructure operators and developers, and advisory services to energy developers, governments and financiers.

PROJECT AWARDS
Golder is preparing an Environmental Assessment Certificate Application for the proposed Interior to Lower Mainland (ILM) Transmission Reinforcement Project on behalf of the British Columbia Transmission Corporation (BCTC). The project involves the proposed construction of a new 500-kV high voltage transmission line from Merritt in the Southern Interior to the densely-populated Lower Mainland area.

Golder was awarded a coal combustion product disposal facility siting, design and permitting for six existing coal-fired power plants in North and South Carolina for Progress Energy. The project will convert a wet transport/disposal process to dry, increase storage capacity and enable potential reuse if market conditions dictate.

Golder Associates EEIG was awarded an Environmental Impact Assessment for a new Slovakian Nuclear Power Plant.
