ACCOLADES
Our Technically Speaking newsletter was recently
awarded 1st place in the External Newsletter
Category of the ZweigWhite 2009 A/E Marketing
Excellence Awards. Winners of these annual awards
were announced at the A/E Marketing Now Summit
in San Francisco, USA on May 21, 2009.

Two of Golder’s most distinguished geotechnical
engineers, Bill Brumund (Jacksonville, USA) and
Tom Krzewinski (Anchorage, USA), have been
recognized by the Academy of Geo-Professionals
(AGP) Board of Trustees as having met the
requirements for the Diplomate, Geotechnical
Engineering (D.GE) credential. The Diplomate,
Geotechnical Engineering credential exemplifies the commitment Bill and Tom have made
to continued education and professional
development, both in their own careers and in
influencing the careers of their colleagues.

was recently listed (64th)
on The Sunday Times 100
Best Companies to Work
For 2009, in recognition of
our great work practices
and excellent people care. Nearly 1,000 organisations
took part in the survey for a place on one of
the 3 lists (Top 20 Big Companies, Top 100
Companies and Top 100 Small Companies).

Our Australian operation recently won two
significant accolades in this year’s Beaton
Consulting/Business Review Weekly (BRW) Client
Choice Awards. For the fourth consecutive year,
Golder won Best Consulting Engineering firm in
our revenue category. Golder also won Best West
Australian firm. Overall, Golder has now won 10
Beaton Consulting/BRW Awards since 2006 and
is the first company to reach this milestone. Three
hundred firms were eligible for the awards in

The Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland
(ACEI) presented Golder’s Dr. John Boyd with its
“Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland
President’s Award 2009” at a ceremony held in
Dublin, Ireland. Dr. Boyd, who is currently finishing
his term as President of the International Federation
of Consulting Engineers (www.fidic.org), received
the award for his outstanding contribution and
dedication to the promotion of project sustainability
management within the global practice and the
honor it has brought to the engineering profession.

Our Ghana operation was recently awarded the
Ghana Africa Business Award (Bronze) from the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration
at the 4th Ghana-Africa Business Awards for
our commendable contribution to development in

COMMUNITY
Over 1,200 Golder employees around the world
recently participated in a global African quilt
fundraiser, raising over $10,000 USD for the Golder
Trust for Orphans. Golder Associates Corporation
matched the employee donations for a total of
$20,000 USD raised.

Recent donations made by the Golder Trust for
Orphans to the Thembisa Embo Community Project
and Hope Farm have helped make the farm run
more effi ciently and provided safer and cleaner
facilities for the orphans who are being cared

After moving to a new location, Golder’s Gainesville,
Florida, USA office held a silent auction and
garage sale to sell surplus furniture left over from
the move, with all proceeds benefi ting the Golder
Trust for Orphans (GTO). Employees were able to
bid on furniture via silent auction and unsold furniture,
as well as employee donations from home,
went to a garage sale. At the end of the day,
proceeds from both the silent auction and garage
sale totaled $800 USD, all of which was donated
to the GTO.

Golder’s Redmond and Seattle, USA offices
participated in an Earth Day tree planting event
sponsored by the City of Redmond and EarthCorps.
Staff planted over 250 trees and shrubs.

TEAMING RELATIONSHIPS
Golder acquired the assets of Engineering and
Hydrosystems, Inc. (E&H), a Denver-based consultancy
specializing in hydrology and hydraulics,
sediment, river engineering and design, and reservoir
and water supply management. The new team
of six engineers and scientists augments Golder’s
core technical capabilities in water infrastructure
design, safety assurance, management and maintenance.

LEADERSHIP CHANGES
Brian Conlin named President
of Golder Associates Corporation
Brian Conlin, previously
the President of our Canadian
operating company,
has been appointed by
the Board of Directors as
President and Chief Executive
Officer of Golder Associates
Corporation, our
global operating company.
He succeeds Rick Firlotte who held this role for
nearly ten years.
Conlin, a 28-year Golder veteran, started his career
in our Mississauga, Canada office in 1977 as a geological
engineer. Spending the majority of his career
on Canada’s west coast, Conlin built his experience
locally and internationally on mining, oil and gas,
land development and infrastructure projects. Prior
to being named president of Golder, Conlin led the
Canadian operating company for nearly a decade,
contributed to global development, and supported
clients across Canada, the United States, South
America and the frontiers of the North.
Now as the global president, Conlin will spearhead
the firm’s sustainability and diversification strategies
with support from the Global Management
Team and Board of Directors. “I am honoured to
accept this position and welcome the opportunity
to face new challenges with a world class team,”
says Conlin. “By building on Golder Associates’
reputation for quality, technical excellence and
integrity, we can position our firm to better serve
our clients for continued success as we enter our
50th year of business.”

Mark Brightman was
recently chosen to lead
Golder’s Canadian operations,
Golder Associates Ltd.
Mark is a hydrogeologist
with a Bachelor’s Degree
from the University of
Nottingham, UK, and has
worked on nuclear waste
disposal, oil sands development and contaminated
sites projects. Mark joined Golder in 1990
and has worked for Golder in the UK, USA and
Canada. Mark succeeds Brian Conlin who was
recently appointed to president of Golder’s global
operating company.

EVENTS
Golder’s Jacksonville, Florida, USA office held an
annual client appreciation golf tournament on
April 10, 2009 at the World Golf Village. It was
a remarkable event with more than 60 clients in
attendance. In addition to the great day of golf,
Golder was able to donate $1,620 USD to the
worthy charity “Dreams Come True,” a non-profit
organization with the simple goal of making the
dreams of children with life threatening illnesses
become reality.

GEOGRAPHIC EXPANSIONS
We recently opened an office in St. Petersburg,
Russia to serve the Russian market. The new
office expands Golder’s traditional ground
engineering and environmental services to
international clients operating in Russia as well
as to major Russian corporations operating in
Russia and abroad. The main focus of the new
office will be on mining, manufacturing and oil
and gas clients. The office is lead by Alex Gordine,
a water resources engineer with 17 years of
