Peter Ingraham Receives Highway Geology Symposium Medallion Award

Jul 27, 2016

On July 13th, Peter Ingraham was honoured to learn his colleagues at the Highway Geology Symposium (HGS) selected him to receive the prestigious Medallion Award at their 67th Symposium in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Founded in 1950 to address common problems being faced in highway and interstate design and construction, the Highway Geology Symposium gathers annually and hosts transportation geologists and civil engineers from the US, Canada and Europe to discuss topics in applied geology affecting roadway and railway projects. Golder Associates (Golder) has been involved with the HGS since the mid-1980s, and has served on the Steering Committee and provided sponsorship since the early 1990s.

Since 1969, The Medallion Award has recognized individuals who have made significant contributions to the Highway Geology Symposium. The recipients are selected from the members of the national Steering Committee based on attendance, the number of papers presented, committees served on, and whether the person has hosted a symposium. When presenting the award to Peter, the Steering Committee Chair, Ken Ashton, said that the HGS would not have had a symposium in 2015 if Peter had not stepped up to coordinate the symposium in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Peter has been a constant contributor to the HGS for many years, and his efforts to organize and manage the Sturbridge symposium last year under tight time constraints after the planned host state dropped out were impressive. Peter was also recognized for leading the paper reviews this year. He has served on the Steering Committee since 2005.

Peter started his career with Golder as a senior geotechnical engineer in 1989 and has provided geotechnical engineering support to Golder projects across the US. He served as Golder's US Transportation Sector Leader from 2005 to 2012, and has supported development of rock engineering practices in several offices.
