Our History
We have a rich history, and a bright future.
Golder started in 1960 in Canada with the lofty ambition of being a modestly successful, high-quality, “niche” market company focused on ground engineering.
Through the early 1970s, we established operations in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia while doing project work around the world. Today we have over 165 offices in six continents, offering expanded services in environmental planning, design, and ground engineering that address the growing needs of our clients for our specialized expertise.
It has taken bold leadership and countless contributions from people around the world to become the company we are today. We’re proud of where we’ve been. And we’re excited by where we’re going next.
The Founders

Larry Soderman
An Ontario highways expert, he brought local contacts, a well-deserved reputation for integrity and a vision for a new kind of firm that would offer more than existing companies at that time.

Victor Milligan
From Ireland by way of the U.S., he brought energy, enthusiasm and a clarity of purpose that was to guide us for many years. He created the culture that is Golder.

Dr. Hugh Golder
An icon from the United Kingdom when soil mechanics was a fledgling science, he brought experience and reputation to the company named after him.
