TORONTO, ON – Catharine Shaw, Mining Client Program Manager at Golder Associates Ltd. is the recipient of the 2014 Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) President’s Role Model Medal. She received the award at the annual CIM Awards Gala held during the CIM Conference in Vancouver. The medal was given “in recognition of setting an outstanding example as an inspiring leader and role model to young people and for her lasting contributions to CIM.”
Having joined Golder in 2002, Catharine has continually demonstrated her marketing and business skills, applying them successfully to growing Golder’s mining sector. As Mining Client Program Manager, she leads efforts to enhance Golder’s client program through growing relationships with mining key clients and industry.
“I am amazed at the incredible and inspiring people I have had the pleasure to work with over the years on a variety of projects that give back to the communities in which we live and work and provide opportunities for the next generation,” says Catharine. “It is an honour to be recognized by CIM for this award and I truly feel like I’m standing on the shoulders of giants.”
Catharine has been an active member of the mining community for many years. She worked to establish the Greater Toronto Area West CIM Branch in 2010, which received the CIM Mel W. Bartley Outstanding Branch Award this year. Catharine is a founding member of Women in Mining Canada, where she is currently President. Additionally, Catharine serves on the Board of the Canadian Mining Equipment and Services for Export (CAMESE) as Vice President and Chair of the Personnel Committee.
