Marine Geophysical Survey for the Edmonds Ferry Terminal

Edmonds, Washington, USA

Client Washington State Ferries
Industries Transportation
Services Geophysics

The Washington State Department of Transportation Ferries Division is planning to construct a new ferry terminal in Edmonds. To assist in the design of the terminal, a marine geophysical investigation was requested to characterize the seafloor geomorphology, map the aerial and vertical extent of sediment and subsurface lithology, and identify potential geohazards. This information will be used to select locations for boring and to assist in the preliminary design and construction the proposed ferry terminal.

Our Role
The offshore geophysical investigation was a multiple component study that includes precision navigation, precision multibeam bathymetry, sidescan sonar, and seismic reflection or subbottom profiling. The interpreted data were presented on a series of maps that included bathymetric contour map of the seafloor, sediment isopach map, surficial features map showing macrophytes, geohazards, and pipelines, and a series of interpreted profiles showing the stratigraphy from the seabed to a depth of about 150 feet.
